1999, Chuan Hsin recruited Dr. Yang Huai-tung from the USA;
Dr. Yang had extensive experience in Epi-wafer R&D and mass
production. When Visual Photonics Epitaxy first moved into HBT
R&D, product certification took a long time to complete, and the
company found itself losing money as a result. The subsidy provided
by the government for companies recruiting talent from overseas
came in very handy. Under the leadership of President Yang, Visual
Photonics Epitaxy's performance has been very impressive.
The company completed the development of
second-generation HBT within two years, and secured certification
in 2001.This made Visual Photonics Epitaxy only the second company
in the world (Kopin being the first) to begin mass production
of HBT using metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD).
Visual Photonics Epitaxy has now overtaken Kopin to become the
world's largest manufacturer of HBT using the MOCVD process.
